Built in the 1960s by Syrian artist Abdul Qadir Arnaout, it signifies the victories, strengths, and achievements of the Syrian people. The Umayyad Sword is also called the Damascene Sword and is well loved landmark of the Syrian people.
Written in Arabic calligraphy is a lyric from a popular Syrian revolution song. It reads "raise your head high, you are a free Syrian."
